UTILITY ENGINEER LEVEL I-IV

BASE SALARY

$60,000 – $95,000 (commensurate with experience) plus additional incentive pay eligibility and comprehensive benefits package

Job Overview

The Utility Engineer at Malasri Engineering plays a critical role in the design, planning, and management of essential utility infrastructure for a variety of projects. This includes projects involving water distribution, wastewater collection, stormwater management, natural gas, electrical power, and telecommunications systems. This position requires a strong understanding of engineering principles, design standards, and regulatory requirements across these various utility disciplines, as well as excellent communication and collaboration skills to effectively work with clients, contractors, and internal teams..

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • 2+ years of experience in utility engineering design and project management.

  • Experience with the design and analysis of water, sewer, and stormwater systems.

  • Familiarity with electric, natural gas, and telecommunication utility design and coordination.

  • Knowledge of relevant codes and regulations (e.g., local, state, and federal).

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and other relevant design software.

  • Experience with hydraulic modeling software preferred (e.g., Water CAD, Sewer GEMS).

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

EDUCATIONAL/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • BachBachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Tennessee preferred.

  • Completion of P.A.C.E. certification within 90 days of employment.

  • Other Industry Certifications (e.g., Asphalt, Concrete, Erosion Control, Earthwork, OSHA10).

  • Advanced Microsoft Office, AutoCAD (Civil 3D).

  • ESRI GIS skills preferred.

  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle and ability to operate a company vehicle.

  • Pass drug screening and criminal background check.  Random drug screenings are conducted during employment.

Responsibilities and Duties 

  • Project Planning: Develop comprehensive project plans, including scope definition, schedules, budgets, and resource allocation.

  • Contract Administration: Manage contracts with clients, contractors, and consultants, ensuring compliance with terms and conditions.

  • Risk Management: Identify and assess potential project risks, develop mitigation strategies, and implement risk response plans.

  • Cost Control: Track and manage project costs, ensuring adherence to budgets and identifying opportunities for cost savings.

  • Schedule Management: Develop and maintain project schedules, monitor progress, and take corrective actions to ensure timely completion.

  • Quality Control: Implement quality control procedures and ensure that project deliverables meet or exceed quality standards.

  • Communication and Reporting: Provide regular project updates to clients, stakeholders, and internal teams through meetings, reports, and presentation.

  • Team Leadership: Lead and motivate project teams, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.

  • Safety Management: Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and promote a safe work environment for all project personnel.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position offers a dynamic work environment that combines office-based collaboration with exciting fieldwork opportunities. While in-person attendance is currently required for meetings and events, you'll also spend time in the field, contributing directly to the projects that make a difference in our communities. Hybrid work arrangements may be eligible in the future with supervisor approval.

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift, push and pull up to 50 lbs.  Sitting for extended periods, using a computer keyboard and mouse extensively, with occasional need to stand, walk, and reach for documents or equipment, often requiring good hand-eye coordination and the ability to see fine details; may require occasional lifting of light objects, bending, or site visits which could involve stairs, hills, ladders, and walking on uneven terrain and being exposed to various weather conditions while in the field.
